This reality is more than a metaphor, as God functions outside of time. From a physics point of view, a beam of light experiences time in a different time frame than we do. As it travels through space at its normative speed, all of time slows down to a moment, and in that timeless moment, from the photon’s perspective, it can traverse the entire universe. What does this tell us about the true nature of time? Time, as we experience it, is not in reality what it seems and ultimately functions in a manner quite different from how we understand it. Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Not only is Jesus pre-existent, He resides in a dimension where time is one continuous now. Perhaps His omnipresence is due to His ability to divide time into infinitesimal time frames (more on this in a moment). This would allow Him to visit us individually and relate to the billions of souls existing throughout time and space and so have the potential to be personally present for each of us. God’s omniscience and foreknowledge of all events in time is due to God existing outside of time itself. Ultimately, the reality is that He knows every possible outcome of everyone’s use of free will and consequently is able to forecast future events because from His perspective it has already occurred. John 16:13 indicates that this is the case for the Spirit of God:

However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
